Hi,
One of my brickwalls is my 3xGt-Grandfather GEORGE DOYLES. I thought I'd post a little information about him in case anyone else has any connections to this family, or can give me any help or suggestions on where to look next.
George was born in Kingston upon Hull c.1785-1788. The first concrete information I have on him is when he marries in Melton Ross, Lincolnshire, in 1821 - George is stated as being 'of the parish'. His first wife dies and he marries again in 1836. I have him on the 1841 to 1871 census returns in Melton Ross where he gives his occupation as ag lab and birthplace as Kingston upon Hull, and he dies in Melton Ross in 1873.
As both his marriages were before civil registration I don't know his fathers name.
The only clues I have are: 1. At his first marriage on 20th February 1821 one of the witnesses was RICHARD DOYLES. 2. 1821 Kingston upon Hull Quarter Sessions - a RICHARD DOYLES, on the 29th July 1821, had a blanket and pillow stolen (worth 10d total) - the man who stole them was transported for 7 years. 3. 1831 George was issued with a 'dissenters certificate' allowing his house to be used as a place of Protestant Nonconformist Religious Worship.
From the IGI there is a baptism for a GEORGE DOYLE, son of George and Elizabeth Doyle, 7th August 1788, St. Mary, Kingston upon Hull, which would fit, but which I can't confirm.
Several of George's children and grandchildren subsequently married in Hull.
It hasn't escaped my notice (being a big fan of Bernard Cornwell's 'Sharpe' books) that George is missing for the Napoleonic Wars period, and is of an age to have been in the army or navy. I also know that a lot of people serving in the army and navy at the period were converted to Methodism. I'd love to find out that he was in the army at the time, but he was probably just an ag lab somewhere between Hull and Melton Ross.
Any information on the surname DOYLES in the Kingston upon Hull area gratefully received.
Sasha.

Hi Sasha
Sorry we have been so little help to you on this one.
Have you made any progress, or do you have any further details that could help someone to find what you are looking for?
Best wishes
