PANTON family, Wanborough, Wiltshire
« on: Sunday 13 April 08 12:18 BST (UK) »

My 3 x Gt Grandfather James Panton is shown on 1851 census as being born in Swindon, Wiltshire. I have never been able to trace his parents and siblings. A search of 1841 census for other Panton's in Wiltshire revealed William Panton born 1801 in Wanborough (Warnborough) Wiltshire. Others in the same household were Ellen Panton born abt 1791 (possibly his wife), Robert Panton born abt 1810 and John Panton born abt 1832.
When James married Ann Dalglish in St Giles, Camberwell in 1808 they named two of their sons William and Robert. This may just be a coincidence.

Has anyone any connection to Panton's in this part of Wiltshire or can anyone help with tracing my 3 x Gt Grandfather in Wiltshire.  There is a possibility he was previously married to a Lucy Biggs, but I have no proof this is him - just a record on the IGI.
He was living in Deptford, Kent on 1841 and 1851 census returns, and  died in 1856.

Thanks for trying Stanley.  Sometimes this town or village is written as Wanborough and sometimes Warnborough. However Warnborough seems to be in Hampshire now. Is this one and the same place?

I have doubled checked the 1841 census and it is Wanborough, Wiltshire.  The family must have originated from another village.
Thanks anyway
