Alexander FORBES
« on: Tuesday 27 September 05 14:28 UTC (UK) »

Hi, I am looking for information re my 3x's great grandfather Alexander FORBES. He married Jane or Jean WYNESS 17 July 1852.  They had 2 daughters Jane FORBES and Mary Alexander Shand FORBES.  I don't know much more about him except he was a coach builder in Inverurie; he was the informant on his wifes death certificate in 1862 and died sometime before his daughter Jane's marriage in 1876.
I know it's not much to go on but any information would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Hi,
I only joined today and saw your post.  I realise it's very old but wondered if you were still participating.

Hi Anne,
You're addicted too then?
I am a Forbes, my lot came from The Black Isles, Ross & Cromerty, Kockbain etc.
However, I live in a village called Rudgwick in Sussex and last week at our local family history group we had a talk from a guy called Ian Wyness about prisoners of war and a book he had written.  He was born in Bellingen NSW. I nearly fell off my chair when he mentioned Annie Forbes from Inverurie (it's not that far from my areas).  Anyway, to cut a long story short I went round his house and he printed off a load of stuff for me.  Unfortunately, because I'm stuck with my (illegitimate) g-g-grandfather I can't find a match at the moment but all those names you mentioned are on the info from Ian.
So, have you made contact with Ian?  I know he's not on Ancestry or anything.  Let me know.  If you don't know him I'll ring him and tell him about you etc.
kind regards
Debs

Hi Deb, no, this is the first time i have heard about Ian Wyness. You have really tickled my curiosity. I would love to know what he knows of my family, I have been stuck on Alexander Forbes for so long that I sometimes forget he existed because i leave him and go off on another branch of the family tree.  Please let Ian know of me. Ive been addicted to family tree research for almost 30 years, way back in the days of pencil and paper Grin, thank god for computers..lol.
Cheers

Hi Derek,
Schoolmaster??? Your ancestors must have been the intelligent side of the Forbes's!!
My lot were crofters and ploughmen.
Anyway, here is my info:
Grandfather: Alexander Forbes bn 1893 Wester Craigland, Rosemarkie (married Helen Hutchison bn 1893 Peterhead)
G-grandfather: Colin Forbes bn 1857 Knockbain - illegitimate - mother Catherine bn 1829 Rosskeen.  Colin married Ann Ross bn 1857 Rosemarkie.  Strangely on Colins birth certificate it says mother Catherine but on his marriage certificate his mother is down as Catherines sister Margaret!  Obviously bought up by Margaret - I wonder if he knew his Aunt was really his mother?!
G-g-grandfather Donald bn 1798 Tain married Mary Urquhart.
Any good?
kind regards
