Buckney
« on: Tuesday 27 September 05 18:10 BST (UK) »

I have a feeling that my ancestors may have moved to Wales from Scotland pre 1745 does anyone know the earliest mention of the surname Buckney?

Thank You

3 Buckney entries in the BVRs for Scotland:

BUCKNEY, John, born 1681 in Linlithgow, West Lothian
Fa:   Patrick BUCKNEY
Mo:   Margaret LEVERENCE

BUCKNEY, John, born 1691 in Linlithgow, West Lothian
Fa:   Adam BUCKNEY
Mo:   Christian GLEN

BUCKNEY, Robert, born 1737 in Linlithgow, West Lothian
Fa:   John BUCKNEY
Mo:   Marion MARSHAL

If any of the above look familiar, there are also details of each of their siblings.

Just let me know.

Anne.

I am sorry but at the moment it is pure guesswork the earliest Buckney's I have lived in Angle Village Pembrokeshire Wales there is a John Buckney born 1745 died 1828 his wife was called Abra.
As far as I know they had three children William James and Abraham there could be more. Unfortunately the church records were destroyed by fire so this is the earliest records I have.

The thing is the only Buckneys in Wales apart from one other lived in Angle village which is in a very isolated area and on a peninsula which might mean the first Buckney arrived there by boat. But from where I don't know, I was told though that Buckney is a Scottish name.
