Perth Cemetery Search - WILSON
« on: Thursday 29 September 05 07:07 UTC (UK) »

Is there anyone able to visit the A.K. Bell library in Perth to look for burials at Wellshill and Jeansfield cemeteries.
The name I am looking for is James Wilson and his wife Ann nee Couttes.
They erected a monument to the memory of ther children at Greyfriars cemetery but there is no indication that they are also buried at Greyfriars. James would have been born around 1800 and was married in 1821.
Any help would be appreciated as I live in Australia and rely on help from Rootschat and other genealogy sites.
Kind regards
Jean (Wilson) Stead

If you can give me a bit more info then I'll happily look this up for you.  Do you know approximately when they died??

Hi!

I went to the AK Bell today and looked through the transcriptions for Greyfriars.  I found no records of them being buried in Greyfriars, only the record of their children.  However, if I can get in during the day next week then I'll check the burial records for you (they were closed toay).  I suspect that they may be buried with the others, just not mentioned on the stone (this appears to be the case with one of mine).  Do you have a picture of the stone??  It can't be far from my GG grandfathers (per the reference) so happy to go down and take a piccie for you.  It's a really lovely graveyard.

PS I've got a copy of George Wilson (their son)'s death certificate if you want me to e-mail it to you.... got it while trying to elicit a bit more info on his parents dates of death....

PPS Nearly forgot.... I printed their marriage entry out, if it's any help.... I'll try and scan it for you but the quality is poor.  Anyway, it reads :

James Wilson, letter carrier in the Middle Church parish of Perth and Ann Coutts in said parish, daughter to David Coutts, vintner there.
Elder : John Duncan
The persons before married were regularly proclaimed and married on the 21st day of January, said year, by the Reverend William Aird Thomson, minister of the Middle Church parish, Perth.
Perth, the 19th day of January, 1822 years.
