Hi Karen,

There are no certificates you can buy prior to 1837, but if you can see the entry on fiche etc., you could get a photocopy.

Sorry just realised I didn't answer your question.

What  I said was true, but  you would be able in some cases to enquire at the Record Office where the records are held and you may be lucky that they would photocopy the entry for you.

Bedfordshire office did this for me recently. They didn't charge me but I don't know how this works in others. I would email or call and see what they say.

hope that's some help.

Hi Diane,
I phoned the London Metropolitan Archives today about the 1835 marriage cert.
They said yes they would have it, but because I do not have the day and month of marriage they would have to do a search....at £38 PER HOUR.   Shocked

Hi Karen

I just checked the IGI for you and found this:

John Greaves married Mary Wood - 15 March 1835, St. Dunstan, Stepney, London.

Hope that helps!

Crikey,

£38 an hour, that's a bit rich.

I thought you had the IGI, that Claire has found, by the year you gave.

That will help and hopefully they will do it for nothing.

Let us know how you get on.

I've never been to the LMA, but I bet somebody on here does and would probably help you out if you get stuck.

Good luck

Hi Karen

Was John 64 in 1871 and a greengrocer. If so I have the 1871 image if you haven't already got it.

Hi Diane,
John was a comb maker age 56, I have the family on 51, 71, 81,
Was puzzling at times because the John you mentioned's wife and chilldren have the same names and similar ages. The only difference being my John's wife Mary was born Birmingham and his occupation. But thanks for looking.  Smiley

Hi Diane.
Had my copy of gg.grandparents Marriage Parish record today. Rather messy. But they could both write. No fathers name , but I think her mother was one of the witnesses.
They copied the whole page and there is another couple on there.
Details as I can read = John Gibbs-bachelor. Maria Supardo
Witness Jane ?angels ? and somebody ?angels. 15.3.1835.
The writing is terrible and ink blobs everywhere lol.But it might be useful to someone.

Hi Karen,

That's brilliant.

Hope it helps you. One I got hasn't in as much as no idea still where the groom came from.

Take care Diane Smiley

One I got hasn't in as much as no idea still where the groom came from.

A couple of times I was able to get more information by looking for the banns (assuming they didn't get married by licence). Sometimes everything is all combined in one entry, but others there's one entry for the banns and another for the marriage.

Certainly worth checking it out.

Hi Pete,

Thanks for that, never thought about banns. Will have to see if I can get that checked.

Thanks
