Jeanp

I am looking for Douglas in Benholm there are a series of William Douglas's who are shoemakers. William Douglas & May (Majory) Nor(r)ie, William Douglas & Catharine Blues, he was a white fisherman and his brother Alexander R Douglas, shoemaker.  Our Douglas line then left Benholm late 1800s  and are the line to Douglas Baker Auchenblae and Laurencekirk, to whom I am related

I hope that something is of use - there's such a lot of good info!

I have almost completed transcribing the post 1855 stones, but I have not indexed them yet, so you'll have to bear with me whilst I check what I've done so far to see if your names crop up. I'll also check the plan to see if your names are amongst the ones not done yet.

Hi JEANP,

Sorry to bother you again, but did you ever manage to find any Forsyth family in Johnshaven/Benholm?

Hi JeanP,

The Forsyth's, John 1868 age 66, Mary 1887 age 87, son Duncan after 1891 about 60, daughter Elizabeth after 1891 about 56.
There are a number of others after 1881, unless they were buried elsewhere.

Stephen, Margaret nee Forsyth 1887 age 48, husband William after 1891.

Anything at all, when ever you can.

Barry

Hello again Barry,

I've found your PM with the family you're looking for, I'll recheck for you and get back to you asap.

Barry, there are 2 Stephen plots marked on the kirk plan (no Forsyth though), but I've not transcribed them yet.

So at the week-end I'll go down and have a look if there's any stones.

Hi JEANP,

Thank you, have been looking at deaths, Mary died 1887 & buried Johnshaven, John died 1866 Johnshaven, Margaret Stephen nee Forsyth 1887 Johnshaven, William Stephen died 1898 Johnshaven and Duncan died 1900 Fortesso Poor House, no sign of Elizabeth at all.

They may be of some use when you look, but the Forsyth's may be like the rest I've found, no headstone or gone.

Sorry for the delay Barry,

Plot marked Wm Stephen has no stone.

The other:
Erected in loving remembrance of my husband David Stephen who died at Moathill Benholm 14th June 1899 aged 66 years also his wife Isabella Stephen who died at Burnhouse 17th Sept 1928 aged 89 years, her sisters Ellen Crichton died 15th dec 1927 aged 92 interred at Brookwood, Catterline died 17th feb 1916 aged 72 years interred at St Machar.

(I seem to have missed some of this inscription, I'll have to check it and amend)

That's all at Benholm so far.

I'm afraid I can't blame the weather, it's been beautiful where we are, more like spring, but I bet we'll pay for it later!!!

Hi

I have just noticed the post about Benholm Kirkyard.

I have two relatives from Benholm that I am try to find.

One, George Findlay, (1889 - ?) farmer at Upper Birnie Farm.  Married to Margaret Milne.

The other is his brother James Findlay (1883 - 1940) married to Mary Cameron Walker.  Interestingly he also died at Burn House, Benholm. On his death certificate his occupation is given as Threshing Mill Owner.

Please let me know if you find any connection with your family.
