Why a YELLOW folder icon, not blue?
« on: Saturday 26 March 05 20:06 GMT (UK) »

Could anybody tell me, as I'm new to this site, why, when I posted a message an hour or so ago, the icon to the left of the listing is a yellow folder, whereas everyone else has got a blue one?

Am I doing something wrong?

Also, how do I get the posting listed with a blue 'NEW' icon as this, too, is missing?

Any advice would be appreciated.

Thankyou.

1. The yellow folder indicates a topic you have posted into ...... it remains blu for those not actively participating in that topic

2. No

3. The "new" tag is not seen by you as you have posted or created the topic therefore it is not new to you ... everyone else new to the topic would see it

Sorry, if my response appeared a little brusque .... it takes me longer each day to shake off my work approach and respond appropriately.  Grin

Welcome to rootschat , generally everyone around here is very friendly and helpful.

Hope you enjoy it.

The business with the yellow folder appearing instead of blue puzzled ME for quite a while - it made me think that somehow I was not starting new topics in the accepted way.  It took me a while to realise that the yellow indicated that I'd had some kind of input myself, and then I properly read the explanations behind everything that goes on here...

To 'Falkyrn'

It was my reply to your response that was a little brusque, not your kind answering of my query.

It think it was because I was annoyed with myself at not realising what the symbols meant and consequently wasting peoples' time that caused me to reply, what I now realise was, curtly.

Th efforts of anyone answering my messages is very much appreciated and I always hope that I will be able to reciprocate some time.

Sorry...and, yes, I am already enjoying the site - I think it is excellent.

« Reply #6 on: Saturday 01 October 05 18:06 BST (UK) »

Hi

Can anyone please explain why when I have posted a message, the folder in the first column is yellow when all  others are blue, where I am going wrong?

Huh

Regards
Ann

Hi Ann

DON'T PANIC!!

The folders are yellow on your posts (when you look) while everyone else's are blue.  When I look, your folders are blue, but mine are yellow!

In the same way, if I open and look at my posts they have a Modify button at the top right, whereas other people's appear to me with a Quote button.  Thus I can Modify my own posts, but no-one else can (except a Moderator), but I can quote someone else's post.

That should be as clear as mud!  Try it and see!

kind regards, Arranroots  Wink
