I will ask my Mum about the shooting she was only a little girl but something as sensational as that may have been talked about.
Duntocher Road starts from Dalmuir all the way to Parkhall.

There have been a fair few shootings in around the Canals-at least another two I can think off-one a cuckolded husband who shot both parties.-maybe the fifties?? Then off course the more recent-1970's Torrance case.(no relation)

Jo, I forgot to get back to you re: Auchentoshan Ave., - a photo of "ma Granny's hoose" would be great if you can take one please?  She lived at number 22, I have a photocopy of a photo, but I'd love to see it as it is today.  I remember playing there with my cousins when I was a little girl - and it's been many years since I was a little girl!   Sad

Hi Debbie,

I wonder if your Dochertys are the same as mine.
Daniel Docherty Ag labourer born Ireland (1810 - 1821) married to Ann Docherty ( nee Morran or Morraw) born Ireland about 1810.  Children William born 1839 Ireland, Catherine born 1841 Ireland and Thomas born 1845 Ireland.  The family are on the 1851 census living at main street, back court, Duntocher.

Catherine married twice.  1st to James Campbell in Duntocher on Oct 28th 1859 and then to Daniel Gill .  She died 28th Feb 1926.

I would love to hear from you about your Dochertys.

Hi Julie,

I expect if we dig enough, we will find a connection to the Docherty's.  I don't have very much on mine, they are a collateral line, and I haven't dug into them too much as yet.
I have Richard Docherty, and his wife Annie McDonald.
Their son Archie Docherty married my Great Aunt Flora Stewart Oct. 30, 1925 at St. Marys.  At the time of their marriage, Archie was living at 38 New Street.
Archie died in January 1951, I think it was a work related accident, in England.

(*** Helen*** feel free to but in here - what do you have on Archie?)

Flora eventually emigrated to New Zealand where she re-married.

Not much Deb,   Sad     I did find a Michael Docherty & wife Annie in the 1901 Census.  They are living in Kirkintilloch with a tribe of kids.  I'll send it to you, see what you think, but there's no way of knowing if it's them because Archie was born abt. 1907.

this site will tell you about Irish civil registration, and the dates it started etc.
http://www.rootsweb.com/~irish/igsi_published/cens-sub/homabd01.htm

Irish research is a lot tougher than Scottish.  My best advice to you is to get everything you can on the couple in Scotland before you attempt the Irish stuff.  Most likely your people were Catholic - Mochan, I'm betting they were from Donegal.  (A lot of the Duntocher folk were from Donegal.)

Helen and I have been working for years on the Donegal families in our tree, and haven't even managed to scratch the surface on them in Ireland.

There aren't any sites like scotlandspeople for Ireland.

Check your people on every census in Scotland, you might strike lucky and get a County of birth in Ireland - but more often than not, the records just say "Ireland"
get all the pertinent certificates, and try for Wills & testaments - they may give clues as to where they were from in Ireland.

Jo, do you have any children for James & Elizabeth?  Anything at all that would help to locate them in the Census' ?

moving over from the Inverness site - Roseann if you are watching this topic please respond -
chasing up loose ends on Debs & my Stewarts from Duntocher ....
Ninian Stewart b. 1895 married Elizabeth McMungle, b. 1895 d/o Thomas McMungle & MaryAnn McDowall.
Arthur Scott Murray b. 1877(also ours) married Susan McMunigle,b. 1877 d/o Hugh McMunigle & Maryann Donachy.  Hugh & MaryAnn had a son Thomas b.1875.  What I am hoping to find out is whether or not Hugh & MaryAnn's Thomas is the same Thomas father of Elizabeth ??
b.t.w. The McMunigles address in the 1891 Census is Castlebank St., Partick - which is the same street Ninian Stewart was born in.

Hi Roseann,
That's it!  We (you, Deb, me) are related on two fronts now.   Grin
It was Susan McMunigle Murrays brother Thomas who was the father of Elizabeth McMunigle Stewart.
Thanks cousin.   Wink

Hi Helen,

So how is Elizabeth McMunigle  married Ninian Stewart and that means my great grand Arthur was your great Gran's brother but also my great gran Susan was hows side of the family? I'm getting confused but Jacquie will be glad to hear this, she is in Canada so does that mean that we are cousins from both sides off the family if so thats amazing. Do you mind if i give you e-mail address out to some of the McMunigle's i have in my tree
