To Jo,
Thanks heaps for the photos - brilliant.  Smiley   Re: James & Elizabeth, I haven't any credits left at the moment, so could only do a cursory search, and you are quite right, nothing came up for Elizabeth Morgan, however there were 4 matches for James Morgan, Dumbarton, in the Statutory Deaths 1855 - 1956.  I suppose you have already checked them out?

To Margaret,
Hi.  Re: McMunigle pronunciation - I was speaking about the family to my elder brother, and even though he KNOWS the correct spelling, he has always called them the "McGunigles" !!!  Huh
Nice to have you onboard, this topic seems to be taking a life of it's own doesn't it?

Hi Helen

My grandmother was Margaret McGunnigle and she was literate, so by the time the name processed through the years it was definitely McGunnigle. My mother's middle name was McGunnigle (Margaret McGunnigle Young).

Hi Margaret,
Makes life hard, doesn't it?  I have found my Mochans under Muchan, Mohan, Mechan, and even Maughan.  Gallachers have been found under Pallocker, and, just to make sure we stay on our toes - a recent census search for OLD KILPATRICK brought up HOKIEPATROCK - I kid you not.    Roll Eyes

Hi Helen yes I have all them, the funny thing is that the house I live in now in Duntocher was lived in by A Hugh and Martha Smith so far I have no luck seeing if they were my relatives as I had trouble tracing all the sons. Thanks for you help Jo x

Hi Jo,
Have you had a look at the Duntocher Directories 1893-94?  Arthur Morgan is living at Veitchs Land, and there are 3 Hugh Smiths - Davies Square, William St., & Veitchs Court.
