To Canada from England: Ruthen family
« on: Saturday 01 October 05 21:38 BST (UK) »

Trying to find information about my great uncle, Frederick Ruthen, or his descendants. Fred moved to Canada from Hull, Yorkshire, sometime after World War One. Its a family mystery why he moved and what happened to him. Can anyone help?

Andrew,

If you go here:
http://findaperson.canada411.ca/

and search on the surname Ruthen in "All Provinces"

you will get two hits, both in Ontario.  Perhaps you could write to them just in case they might be related.

Good luck!

any luck with the Canadian links?  Look at the research in Canada sticky topic, as new research links will be added on there, constantly... J.J.

Hello Josephine

Yes, I've written to the 2 people you found for me. Even if they are not related directly to Fred, I may be able to link them to my Ruthen ancestry.  I've researched the Ruthen family pretty thoroughly and have found that most, if not all,  people living in the 1800s in England were descendants of one couple (John and Sarah) who lived in Suffolk in the mid-late 1700s.  However, I'm hoping that this will lead me to Fred - reasons for his departure from England and not keeping in touch with parents and siblings have been a family mystery since my great grandparents died in the 1920s.

Hi Andrew,

An Arthur and Marjorie Ruthen appear in Canadian immigration records twice - once in 1929 and once in 1934.  Could they have been family members visiting Fred?  You can find the records by searching for Ruthen here:
http://www.collectionscanada.ca/archivianet/020118_e.html

Unfortunately only the records for 1925-1935 are available, so no Fred.  I don't know if you will get any more information on Arthur and Marjorie if you order copies of these records from the Archives or not.  What's on-line may be all the info there is.

It's J.J. but that's o.k. you have lots of helpers...There don't seem to be
that many Ruthens around, so here is one I found on a website...
