I found my 3xgt-grandfather and his family in the 1851 index for Belford and Bamburgh:- HO107/2420/Folio 156
Francis TODD Hd M 57 Shepherd b Lowick Jane TODD Wi M 60 b Ford Jane TODD Da U 28 b Ford Phillis TODD Da U 25 Ag Serv b Belford Thomas TODD So U 17 Ag Lab b Kirknewton Robert TODD So U 14 Scholar b Kirknewton Henery TODD So 6 Scholar b Alnham George TODD So 4 b Alnham Christopher TODD So 2 b Wooler
I suspect that the last three are actually grandchildren. Phillis TODD was my 2xgt-grandmother and she married William BEANEY in Tynemouth in 1861. She was actually born around 1831 and every census entry gives her birthplace as Belford but I can't find her recorded in pre-1837 Belford baptisms, nor have I found a record of her parents' marriage. Any help with this, or any record of this family in the 1841 census, would be really appreciated.
Thanks,
Kath

If you are just looking for a date www.1837.com would find it but you would need subscribe.
If you want to see the Baptism Register itself I think you would have to ask at the Record Office for the area to see if it was there.
Sorry I can't be of much help - Wallsend is a bit out of my area.

Hi Terri and Myra,
Those Presbyterian baptisms have given me some more names to work on. The mystery is Phillis Todd's age and d.o.b. In 1851 she is 25, which is more or less compatible with the 1824 baptism record. In 1861, when she marries William Beaney, her father is named as Francis Todd, husbandman, and her age is given as 29. In the Beaney family bible her date of birth is given as 10 August 1831 which tallies with her age as given in censuses up to 1891. Maybe she knocked a few years off her age!
Thanks,
Kath

Hi Terri,
We're getting away from TODDS of Belford a bit, but I found the birth you were looking for:
Alexander R. WALKER (mother's maiden name: AITCHISON) December quarter 1914 Tynemouth Vol 10b, Page 384

Hi Kath
I have had another search and this Phyllis is the only one to show up. I think you may be right that she knocked a few years off her age. If she did, it means that she was well into her 30s when she married which would limit the number of children she had in a time when they were having a child every 2 years!
The Francis Todd (father) is also the only Francis in the area that I can find.
Baptism in Belford West Street - 27 December 1786. Francis son of William & Mary Todd of Kyloe Moor, Kyloe Parish. Born 19 December 1786
Death in Belford Parish Register - 31 January 1787. Francis son of William & Mary Todd of Fenwick-back-Settlements.
Baptism in Belford West Street - 10 May 1788. Francis son of William & Mary Todd of Fenwick, Kyloe Parish. Born 2 May 1788.
This is near enough to Lowick to put Lowick as his birthplace on the census.
If this is Francis the father, he was a bit dodgy with his age too!
Myra

Myra,
Thanks once again for that information. What sources do you use to look these up?
