Kearney immigrated about 1897
« on: Tuesday 04 October 05 23:11 UTC (UK) »

I know this is probably a long shot, but I'm trying to find out if anyone has information about my grandfather's uncle who immigrated to Australia.

I believe his name was John Kearney.  He would have been born in Castleisland (Kilmurry), County Kerry, Ireland sometime after 1880.  His parents were James Kearney and Catherine Prendeville.

He probably went to Australia in 1897, as that's when his eldest brother James came to the US -- they were on the run from British law enforcement for shooting a British officer.

He also had a brother in South Africa, a sister Mary in New York, and at least two other brothers.  He was a postmaster general in Australia.

If anyone can add to this, please let me know.
