1841 census look up please - PARISH
« on: Wednesday 05 October 05 17:10 UTC (UK) »

Would be grateful for a look up on 1841 census for

Joseph PARISH  aged  22   cordwainer   born  Milverton

He has a son Joseph in 1841 but does not marry wife Caroline until 1844.   Don't know if Joseph was illegitimate son of Caroline or if her husband Joseph had been married before.

any help much appreciated

thanks

Yes - her name was Caroline King.   Strange about Joseph -  suppose Bristol where he was living wasn't the same county.   Son Joseph was born 1841 so suppose they just didn't marry too quickly.

Thanks for your time

Hi

Joseph Parish was the brother of Sarah Parish who married William Shopland (cordwainer) around 1830.

Earlier in the year i visited Houndsmoor in Milverton and apparantly the house that they probably lived in was demolished about ten years ago.

It seems that the Shopland's or at least my part moved to Bristol around 1870 where one of his sons John became a policeman who was stationed at Brandon Hill.

Hope it adds to your quest

Regards

Jo
