Hi Sarah,

Sorry they missed off Bury!!  Grin Grin

I am still trying to work out if Whitchurch is down - there is something near Chester - but not sure if that's supposed to be us!!

I don't think he quite knew which was north - still some great maps on site.

Cheers

MARIO is a good site for maps of Lancashire though it only covers modern Lancashire, after various bits were colonised by Manchester, Liverpool etc.  You can view large scale modern maps i.e. see property boundaries, modern aerial photographs and also WWII period aerial photographs and also these options.

First Edition OS 1:2500 Map
First Edition OS 1:10000 Map
First Edition OS 1:10000 (transparent)
1950s 1:50000 Map
Historic Town Reports
Historic Town Management Guidance
Historic Landscape Character Map
Lancashire Lantern Image Archive
Scheduled Monuments

It is worth noting that many British councils now have very large scale mapping on their website, usually in the Planning Department section though sometimes it takes a bity of hunting to find the maps.

I also high recommend the maps available on CD and DVD from the Digital Archives Association, I keep the 26" to the mile 1895 map along with 6" to mile 1840s map on my hard disc for fast access.  They also do a larger scale map of Manchester.
