Vine family

Does anyone have any links with or information on the Vine family of Spalding. My Great Grandad was a mariner, skipper of the Humber Keel, "Breeze" registererd at Boston, Lincs. I would like to know more about his parents and about the ship. Keith

Have you tried the 1881 census on CD as it lists the misc people ie boats and royal navy, merchant ships. Important to obtain birth marriage and death certs for the family including any siblings and check in various census data for area which will give you a fix on residence etc. Local library may have history of the local boats and canals. Ship may still exist.
Hope this helps a bit.

Great Grandad Vine was John Henry Vine, born1847, married to Rebecca, born 1849 both in Spalding, Lincs. Children were Florence Daisy born 1872, Thomas H born 1878, Edith Ada born 1880 (my grandmother), Roland born 1883, died 15-10-1917 burried at Poelcapelle British Cemetary, & George 1885. I have census pages for 1881, 91, & 1901 I would realy like to go back another generation to his father & mother. Also find out if his father as well as brothers were also mariners.

Matthew could be John's father, worth holding on file until you have confirmation from certificates. Cheers Jan

Interesting stuff. I think John Henry married to Rebecca is the same as I have for 1881 with my grandmother Edith Ada age 1. Any years previous to this would be great. I cannot connect John Henry with Matthew as the John on the Breeze in Caen in1861 is not the right age. I do know that john Henry was skipper of the Breeze around 1900. Kind regards Keith
