I am wondering if anyone would be able to find a family with the surname WILLS that gave birth to a daughter between 1847 to 1856 by the name of Mary Ann WILLS in Ware District.
This is what I know:
- Marriage has the father listed as Charles WILLS - Labourer
- Mary Ann married in Strood, Kent in 1864 - age 17 to Richard Marshall ATTWATER
- Witnesses to marriage were Jesse & Charlotte TAYLOR'S - unknown relationship to Bride & Groom?
- 1871 census - I have not been able to locate.
- 1881 census has Mary Ann at age 30, born in Ware, Hertfordshire. (Online has it now listed as Ware, Kent?)
- 1891 census has Mary Ann at age 36 born in Town ware?, Hertford.
- 1901 census has Mary Ann at age 45 born in Ware, Hertfordshire.
Interestingly, in 1881, the son of Mary Ann is listed living with a John Charles WILLS in Rainham, Kent. When tracing this family, the father of John C. WILLS is Charles WILLS but the entire family is born in Rainham, Kent. I have traced this family back but they lived in Rainham in 1851. There is a daughter that may fit but her name is Mary Collingham WILLS born 1848 in Milton District, Kent.
Questions:
Is there a family in Ware, Hertfordshire with a Charles WILLS as head of household in the 1851 census?
Does anyone have access to the PR's for the period of 1847 to 1856 for Ware that could look for a birth for Mary Ann WILLS?
Does anyone know of a link between Hertfordshire and Kent with regards to the surname WILLS?
Any help in solving my mystery would be greatly appreciated.

The only Mary Ann Wills in Hertfordshire between the dates you listed is a Mary Ann Wills who was christened on September 14 1856 at Waltham Cross, Hertford to Henry Wills and his wife Mary Ann.
I don't know if this is any help to you.

Hi Petercornish,
I think that this is a little late for her as she married at age 17 in 1864. I am sure that she lied on the census data as her birth changed from year to year (making her younger and younger)
Thank you so much for taking the time to look for me. I am at the point where I will be looking for a second marriage to another possible Mary Ann for my Richard Attwater. It looks like there is a possible census for 1871 where this Mary Ann went back to her maiden name and possibly split up from my relative. The 1871 census data has this individual born in Rainham which leads me to think it is a different Mary than the one on the 1881 - 1901 census.
