Topic: Sussex Marriage Index lookup, please: John Grover to Margaret, c.1785 (Read 168 times)

Hello: I've been trying to find the surname and place of marriage for this couple, John Grover to Margaret. The marriage took place ca.1785, perhaps near Coombes or Upper Beeding (that's a guess). I was wondering if the answer might be in the Sussex Marriage Index?

According to the SMI, John Grover (otp) married Margaret Chasmore (wid otp), by licence, in Sompting, on 20th October 1784. Witnesses: John Slaghter, Isaac Friend Barber.
A Margaret Tifeings married a James Chesmere in Sompting on 30th April 1776. Witnesses: Thomas Cooter, Isaac Friend.

Two of my Linberrys married Grovers. Peter James Linberry of Upper Beeding married Hetty Grover in Lancing in 1820. They lived at no.2 Lower Maudlin, Bramber. Their son, Peter, married Louisa Grover in Hove in 1854. I have lost Peter and Louisa after their marriage. Do you know if these Grovers are linked to yours?

That's a good question, Deborah ... I don't know yet because I've just discovered the Grover connection. This lot were at Coombes for the longest time. I have to study the FHL film for Coombes for this and other surnames, so I'll keep this Linberry-Grover connection in mind.
