Hi
I have framework knitters 1820-1880s in Stockwell Gate and Newgate Lane, Mansfield who were FWKs. This is in the Parish of St Peters but some records are absent. FWK were notoriously non-conformist.
Which chapels would they have attended and where are the records?
Any clues or information most welcome.
Jane

Hi Jane, herewe are again on another thread. Both Grandad Fell and Grandad Wilkinson lived in Stockwell gate in one or more of the yards. I think I have some info on the free churches. There were several Methodist chapels and the Old Meeting House was the Quaker Home. I was a member of Leeming St Primitive Methodists in my young days. I have got the map of Mansfield prior to the rebuilding of marketplace and my brotherinlaw has a bigger map of the whole town at the end of the 19th century. I'll come back to you later. Gerald

Hi Gerald
I hope you had a good trip. I have a marriage in Mansfield that I just cannot find. As they are FWKs they are likely to be non conformist so any information will be great.

Hi Jane, I left off the other because I knew I had read an article about the free churches in Mansfield and now I have found it.It is on http/members/lycos.co.uk/u4l25/mansfield/mansfield There were 136 bodies removed from St Peter's churchyard in 1905 which are listed in the above. I think Stockwell gate was in St John's parish. Gerald

Hi Gerald, I see you have Fell in your ancestry. My grandmother was Elizabeth Fell of Balderton Notts, Married George Albert Reeve in December 1899 but may have had a son Arthur aged 4 at that time. Any connection? Gino Reeve.
