Miranda There is a Lowthwaite in/near Kirkoswald and a Rownthwaite in the Orton/Birkbeck Fells/Raisbeck area south of Crosby Ravensworth.
There is a site which names the small hamlets in Cumbria covered by the 1851 census:
http://rolyg.members.beeb.net/CensusPlaces.htm
which is useful. Deborah

Thanks .......
I need to start looking somewhere ....... I really have no idea where she came from.
Normally it's easy as they get married in the village/town of the bride but not this time.
Regards, Miranda

If your relative came from Milburn in Westmorland then it is likely that the Lownthwaite you are looking for is a farm just outside the village of Milburn which my family have farmed since about 1889. The farm is still in our family now. Let me know if you want any more info.
