I am trying to find birth/baptism of Martha Hancock born c1814 according to Census info in Steynton Pembroke Wales
on 27th November 1834 she married Francis Tivey they married in Pembroke st mary
Francis Tivey was in the Navy they only had (I believe) 1 child Ellen Jane and she was born in Portsmouth.
What I would really like to know if possible is Martha's birth date & who her parents were please

Hi Sandie,
I went through the HANCOCK names on IGI and there are not that many listed as born in Steynton ( I put a few below in case you link them up later) so it would be best to order the film from your local Mormon Family History Centre if you can get to one. I noticed some married their cousins so Hancock is a maiden and married name....this will keep you occupied for hours trying to sort out which family they married into..the films are worth getting as the baptism info gives father's occupation as well as mother's maiden ( usually) so you will be able to work out who belongs to whom.
Francis & Martha also had a son:

it was only last night I found James Henry Tivey funny never cropped up before,
you have given me some new names to look at.
Shame Marthas birth hasnt turned up yet greedy arent I
I did find 2 births around same time in Steynton a James & Robert Hancock parents were James & Elizabeth guess I need the parish registers for pre 1837. perhaps a visit to Pembrokeshire not too far from Oxfordshire.

Guess what the 1851 turned up another son William Tivey born c1836 cant find him again though!
mind you took me ages to realise I needed the 1851 Wales census maybe thats why I am having trouble finding them huh!  sandie

How about this for a theory abt William 1836.
On the 1851 census he is William born abt 1836 St Michaels Pembroke.
In 1861 there is a Francis W Tivey on board a vessel at sea at the time of the census born abt 1836 but his birth place is New York USA to english parents. He is married.
There is a marriage for William francis Tivey in Lewisham (same place as Ellen Jane) March qtr 1859 to a Sophia Beasley. In the 1861 census his wife is in Great Grimsby Lincolnshire with his daughter Sophia- both are born in Greenwich Kent. She is a fishermans wife.
Do you think this could be our William? Perhaps they went to New York after they wed- Francis had connections with the navy - maybe they came back but William was born in New York and registered in Pembroke when they returned.
I know this is a bit of a long shot but the ages seem to fit as do the places.
What do you think?

interesting theory not sure though, there was also a wlm tivey born c1833 derby on Naval Vessels?

The witnesses at Martha Hancock's wedding in 1834 were James Hancock and William Price. James Hancock's name may give you a clue.

Gosh it was a long time since I first posted this..........funny though I still dont have Marthas birth date!!!.......I do have the marriage you mention and I know James remarried and I have loads more now on Frances Tivey.........are you related Abergynolwyn?
