Hi Darcy

There seems to be quite a lot to choose from, is the John Williamson the one that married Sarah Ruddock 1850 St Mary Cheadle ?

It may be best to obtain the fathers names from the marriage certificate then they could be found 1841 as well ?

John Williamson married Sarah Ruddock
Hannah born Stockport age 19 in 1872 when married here in Australia.
We don't have any more details as we cannot find the shipping records and don't have John and Sarah's marriage certificate as Hannah's only came yesterday (Aussie certs have both parents not just the father on the UK ones)
Thanks for looking,

Hi,
I'll be going to Stockport library at the weekend. so if you can wait I'll have a look at the Cheadle St Mary marriage register and let you know if I find anything.

Hi Peter,  Grin

there are quite a few possibilities for the parents John & Sarah Williamson but the entry for Hannah Williamson is much easier. I was about to post these two entries when redshank beat me to it. Grin  One is the same finding for Hannah aged 8, as redshank posted. Here is the full entry.

1861 Census   Cheadle Bulkeley  RG9/2567  Folio: 116  Page: 19

Hunt Street

Thomas Williamson, head, 57, Band Maker ( employing 2 men & 7 boys ), Stockport
Hannah, wife, 59 , Stockport
William, son, un, 22, Band Maker, Stockport
Hannah Barrat,t dau, Mar, 27, Cotton Weaver, Stockport
Samuel Williamson, son, un, 22, Band Maker, Stockport
Eliza, da, un, 19, Cotton Weaver, Stockport
Esther, dau, 14, Cotton Weaver, Stockport
Joseph Barratt, grandson, 4, Stockport
Hannah Williamson, grand dau, 8, Domestic Servant, Stockport
Elizabeth Waters, sister, mar, Stockport

The best match for Hannah's parents I can see is the one I posted .Going by the birthplaces and the fact that this John Williamson's son is a Band Maker.

1861 Census Didsbury    RG9/2867  Folio: 24  Page: 12

High Road West

John Williamson, head, 34, Green Grocer, Stockport
Sarah, wife, 36, Stockport
John Williamson, son, 11, Band Maker, Stockport
Sarah, dau, 9, Scholar, Stockport
Elizabeth, 6, Stockport
Thomas, 4, Stockport

Hi Alex and Jan,
Hope this is the one your looking for,
27th October 1850 at Saint Mary's parish church Cheadle.
John Williamson 23 bachelor, Cotton band maker, father Thomas Williamson also a cotton band maker , residence at time of marriage Cheadle Buckeley
Sarah Ruddock 25 Spinster, father Hugh Ruddock, Broker, residence also Cheadle Buckeley.
Witnesses, Thomas Ruddock  and George Smith.
George Smith features on a lot of the certificates as a witness so I think he must have been a  member of the clergy.

Hi Alex and Jan,

May be the parish clerk - I have the same with the witness to one of my ancestor's marriages who also witnessed several others on the same page. When I looked him up in the census he was the parish clerk.
