Lost Children...can you help?
« on: Monday 23 August 04 01:59 BST (UK) »

Hello Rootschatters,
I am at the end of my rope and wonder if anyone can point me in the right direction.
My relative, Henry Alldridge, died in 1893 at age 32 and left 5 children. He appears on the 1891 census living with his wife Ellen and 4 of the children. The children were: Leonard Alldridge, born 1885; William H. Alldridge, born 1887; Frank Alldridge, born 1889; Ruth R. Alldridge, born 1890. All of the children were born in Birmingham
On the 1901 census, Ellen has remarried. She is now Ellen Thompson and has her youngest Alldridge child living with her...Harry Alldridge, age 9. None of the other children are anywhere to be found.
I have tried every kind of search that I can think of on the 1901 census but with no luck. I had thought that other family members maybe adopted the children but that doesn't work either. Any ideas?
Thanks,

Hi Sandi,
Thanks for your help. I think that Frank might be mine. I will look into it further. I wonder if the other children maybe got shipped to an orphanage; Dr. Bernardo's  or the like. I understand that poor widows were sometimes left no other option but to put the little children in a home. Sad really. Will let you know how I get on with this.
Once again, thanks for your help.
