The name Flisher in the UK can be found from Kent to Devon.
In some Census information in Devon, the name was incorrectly recorded as FISHER & FLESHER, but the fact is the FLISHER branches of Devon and Dorset are traceable to Kent near Canterbury.
My initial interest in the FLISHER name began in the late 1980's with a
picture with the words "cousin Gorge" scratched onto the back. The original picture belonged to Weymouth born Annie Susan Zelley. It was likely the property of her father William John Simpson Zelley.
After years of guessing, the correct name turned out to be
George John Flisher (son of John Flisher and Emma Martha White).
His grandparents on the White side of the tree were
Thomas WHITE and Anne Charlotte BELLAMY.
Some of his scattered leaves through the WHITE line
names such as: Bush, Wills, Pearce, Zelley, Moran, Glover,
Wyatt, Taylor, Lock, Cronk, Timms, Brownsword, O'Flynn,
Johnston, Johnson, and many more

If we are to build the FLISHER home on this site, we need to establish a foundation - Clement FLISHER and then add the framework with Kent,
Dorset and Devon rooms.
In the Wyke Regis area of Dorset, Thomas FLISHER married Elizabeth WILLIAMS in 1828. Throughout the rest of the 1800's, the FLISHER folks would be active as Mariners.
When John FLISHER married Emma WHITE in Weymouth area he was a member of the Coast Guard. The WHITE name & Coast Guard would also
be ZELLEY connections. By 1871, John & Emma were residing in the
Mount Batten region of Devon near Plympton & Plymouth
By 1871, the children were Emma and George.
However, not all FLISHER boys from Dorset would be mariners,
Such was the case of Charles FLISHER of Weymouth, by 1901
we find him as a policeman in the Greenwich, but I'm sure that his Greenwich
beat would have much contact with an unruly sailor or two.
To build the - Kent to Devon Flisher bridge - we need to go back and connect the dots from Clement in the 1660's to Thomas Flisher in 1828 and
George John Flisher in the period from 1870 into the early 1900's
and his marriage to Ellen Jane SOBEY in 1898. Sadly, Ellen died at age 39
at Devonport region in 1908.

CLEMENT FLISHER born c1640 married JOANNE GOSSE 31 May 1659 in Canterbury? was my 8 x great grandfather.
My line is as follows -
BETTY FLISHER (living) m TERENCE EDWARDS Folkestone.
EDGAR EARLE FLISHER born 1891 in Sandgate married Mabel Bessie Davis (nee HART) in 1923.

PHILLIS baptised St Martins Canterbury 24 April 1665.
RYSE (Ruth) baptised St Martins Canterbury 13 January 1668.
JOHN baptised 24 September 1672 St Martins Canterbury.
WILLIAM baptised 31 January 1673 St Martins Canterbury. Died 1675.

Clement and Anne??? had the following children - CLEMENT was born c 1640/44

Well it looks like a few possible branches with the name carried forward by John & William.
At some point we need to find when the Thomas & George names are added into the mix
The John FLISHER & Edith DAVIS marriage in 1788 may have been the first one in Dorset
but that needs to be confirmed.

Also, how is Clement connected to a John FLISHER of Sussex of 1620 and 1643. Could Clement have been born in Sussex?
Then there is the name appearing in Yorkshire & Scotland

Hi,
I am not sure at the moment, I have done very little research on the BEER line, all I know is at the time of her marriage to Edward Flisher she was living in Seasalter which is near Whitstable in Kent. I will have a dig around over the next few days and see if I can find anything.
