**RESTORATION: etiquette and guidelines**
« on: Monday 24 October 05 05:45 UTC (UK) »

The RootsChat Photo Restoration Board is a place where Restorers freely
offer their talents and expertise to restore, improve and colourise images.

Copyright

  • RootsChat members who ask for images to be improved, restored and/or coloured
are expected to own the copyright to this image (the Owner).

  • Regardless of who actually scans or posts an image on RootsChat,
the copyright holder is the Owner

  • Work or play done in this forum is just that, and does not give anyone any rights over those images.

  • Any request is an explicit permission from the Owner to use this image as a basis for modifications.

  • Any request is made on the understanding that the Owner may then download the restored image(s) and make copies (prints) of them for their personal use.

  • Forum images may not be used in any other venue, and they may not be included in any member's offsite, personal gallery without explicit permission from the Owner.  Images remain the sole property of their Owner no matter what level of restoration has been achieved.

Courtesy

Many Restorers are happy for others to use their work as a basis for further work, but anyone wishing to further modify a modified image must first ensure that permission has been given, and if not, then ask that Restorer.

Most Restorers will be happy to let others use their work,
but you must acknowledge the source in your postings. This is simply good manners.

Please read this page on Creative Commons: http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-sa/3.0/
If you agree with this then you might like to add the following comment to your postings:

Feel free to use my restorations under the following terms:
(or similar wording)

To do this, just copy the line in the following box and paste it into your reply
Code:
Feel free to use my restorations under the following terms: [url=http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-sa/3.0/][img]http://i.creativecommons.org/l/by-nc-sa/3.0/80x15.png[/img][/url]

If you do not wish others to use your work, it is your responsibilty to state this clearly on your postings.

If you wish to protect your work, you can 'watermark' any copies posted on RootsChat and send your improvements, via email, to the Owner.
(see below)

Completed Requests

Owners, when you feel the topic is now finished, please use the modify button to add the word *completed*
to the titles of the first and last entries in your topic.
If you wish, you may also lock your topic.

Property Theft

All posters, Owners and Restorers, should remember that RootsChat is a public internet forum.
Be aware, that despite any rules of etiquette, images could be downloaded by anybody, at any time.

Tolerance

There is some amazing work done here on this board. And it's done in a spirit of fun.

It's easy enough, especially if you're new to this, just to pitch in, and join in the fun.
Not everybody has read these rules, and some have read them, but in the fun of the moment, forgotten them.

We were all newbies once and made mistakes which we regret, so rules will certainly help us all....but please don't forget that we also need to show our patience and understanding which is the essence of Rootschat.

Courtesy and Common Sense will solve most problems.
If somebody breaks the rules, a gentle reminder about this topic in a PM will usually be enough, but if not, then please contact a moderator

To paraphrase another RootsChatter:
Quote
There are no 'villains' on the photo restoration board, just ordinary people.

Watermarking

After you have finished your restoration and are ready to post your work, you can
add the RootsChat watermark plus your RootsChat Username to the image. (See image below.)
The reason for the watermark is to prevent further edits of the image after it has been posted.

To get the watermark effect to the RootsChat logo and your Username, I suggest
you place them on a separate layer and reduce its opacity by at least 50%. (Use your own discretion)
