Can anyone help?
I have a marriage cert for Mary Ann Wickenden dated 12/4/1858 at the parish church of Ore. Her father is given as John Wickenden and is a labourer. Marys age is 21.
I have found the Mary Ann Wickenden born in Lewes in 1842 to a John, but this would make her 5 years too young, also her father was a Whitesmith.
I have been unable to find anything about the Wickenden family, or Mary and her husband James Etherden in any census return. I have found James in 41 and 51 census returns, but nothing once he married. He was born abt.1839 in Hastings and I'm sure they continued to live in Sussex and they had children that I have found that were born in the county. In 1865, on their daughters birth cert, James was a stonemason journeyman.
Bye Alysse.

Hi Alysee
Spotted this in the 1851 Census for Ore, Hastings.
HO107/ 1635/ Folio112/ Page 70/ Mount Pleasant Terrace, Ore, Hastings
WICKENDEN John, Widow, 40, Rail Labourer, born Tonbridge, Kent ................... George, Son, Unm, 15, Rail Labourer, born Southborough, Kent ................... John, Son, Unm, 7, born Tonbridge, Kent ................... Mary, Dau, Unm, 11, Housekeeper, born Southborough, Kent
It matches your criteria, all except the age of Mary who would have been about 18/19 in 1858 if this is the one who married James. - (I suppose she could have lied about her age at the time of marriage)

Hi Again
Have checked the Baptism Register for Hastings between 1700 and 1879 for a James Etherden - non are listed.
The name Etherden is mentioned only 4 times in that time period, all females and all to different parents.
Looks very Unlikely that he was baptized in Hastings.

Hi Chris
Thanks for that info on the Wickendens. I have now found them in Kent ,but for your search I would have still been looking in Sussex.
Alysse.
