Hi

Quite right Gadget - I wasn't inferring they are not buried there. I bought the MI many years ago trying to trace burials of several ancestors with no joy at all and I wondered whether some headstones had been removed for whatever reason. Perhaps a local can enlighten us.
I forgot to say yesterday (distracted by family and later the rugby (shame) ) that there are a couple of Bowens mentioned. A Thomas Bowen and his wife (no name) with a brass plaque on the pulpit inscripted 'To the Glory of God and in loving memory of Thomas Bowen and his wife of Tyddyn this pulpit was erected by his children 1877'. No MI and perhaps this also indicates some have been removed.

Peter

Hi Peter

Not Llanidloes - I meant generally  :)  Most of my Montgomeryshire families were from the Llangynog area - Jones the Blacksmiths and others  ;D

Hi Decota

Did Mary marry a George Bowen?

I have found another 2 MI booklets for Llanidloes chapels and although they still do not show your  family that you mentioned there are some more Bowens in Bethel cemetery. A John and his widow another Mary who died 29 Jan 1879 aged 78 and also a son Andrew who died 30 Jun 1891 aged 65. There is also in the same cemetery an Ann Leek (no 'e') who died 13 Jan 1857 aged 24. She is buried with an Elizabeth Manuel 30 Jan 1854 aged 15.

Hope this helps somewhere

 hello again  Gadget and Peter

Yes... Mary Leeke married George Bowen 10.1.1845 Llangurig
George was killed in the Crimean War

Mary must have came back to live with family after George's death
She had 3 sons to look after. youngest went to the Chelsea Boys home
the year Mary died.
I have a photo of Youngest son, as a adult,  but none of George or Mary.....

John and Mary Leeke had  4 other children  found so far....
Ann      b. 13 April 1817  Llanidloes
John     b. 1   May 1819
Edward b. 21 October 1821
Mary     b. 24 May 1824   ( Mary who married George Bowen)
Hannah b. 11 June 1827

Peter   maybe the Bowens you have found are related.......... I will try to find more about them all.
There maybe more children too.....or any early deaths of these children above would be
appreciated???
The Anne Leek is a interesting one  is Elizabeth Manual, a Leek too?? or Manual her surname

Gadget   I phoned the St Idloes Church yesterday and I was given an email address,  so have
sent the details to them  and are now waiting in anticipation.......

But I do know now that they are in this cemetery somewhere............
thanks to you.

Kind regards  Decota

This is the nearest that I can get to Elizabeth Manuel, b.c. 1840:

1851
HO107/2496/104/15/55
Great Oak Street, Llanidloes
Thomas Manuel, 57, Sawyer of Wood, b. ?, Worcester
Dorothy, w, 49, b. Trefeglwys
Thomas, s, 17, b. Llanidloes
Mary, 25,d, b.  do
Elizabeth, d, 12, b. do

In 1841
Great Oak Street, Llanidloes
HO107/1436/7/26/13
Thomas Manuel, 45, sawyer
Dorothy, 40
Mary, 16
Ann, 13,
Sarah, 10
Thomas, 7
Elizth, 3
All b. County but Thomas, snr

Dorothy would appear to be a Dorothy Lewis:

Gadget and Peter
Thank you both for all the information    I have been trying to connect the families....

Have found Hannah Leeke married to John Thompson in the 1871 Census
with Mary Bowen's, nee Leeke...(sister of Hannah Leeke) two nephews living with them,

George Bowen and John Thomas Bowen,  John Thomas is our GGrandfather he came to New Zealand.

I have been unable to find Hannah and John Thompson again .
.....maybe they had no children or their own..... or their marriage record
Can you see them ???  maybe I missed them.

Unable to trace George Bowen, John Thomas's brother again.........                                                         George Bowen, b. 12/09/1845 Llanidloes, (son or George and Mary Bowen nee Leeke.)

Many thanks again  Decota
