Phanton Grandmother ;D
« on: Wednesday 25 June 14 09:38 BST (UK) »
Hi All,

I need some help tracking down my Grandmother's UK war service records. I can't find any trace of her using either Maiden Name, Married Name or RAF service #.   :o

What I know:
She was stationed at RAF Gorcebrook Rd, Dagenham, Essex as a barrage balloon operator in 1943-45
Name: Jeal, Irene (married Gibbons)
Rank: LACW
Service # 2025558

I would appreciate anyone who can help.  Cheers.

Welcome to RootsChat! ;D

Service records for anyone serving after 1920 are still with the MOD!
See: https://www.gov.uk/requests-for-personal-data-and-service-records

There is usually a fee of £30 - which may be waived if you meet certain criteris.

Welcome to Rootschat.

I see from http://www.freebmd.org.uk/cgi/search.pl that she married in Ilford in Dec 1943,so she may well be registered in her married name.

But as KG has said very few WW2 records are online and you'd need to order them from the MOD.

Depending if your mum or dad or aunts or uncles (her next of kin) are still alive, they will waive the fee to provide then to the next of kin.
