Hallo, Jason

I don't think you will get much from the photo unless the original has better detail.  I can't see any shoulder insignia and the cap badge appears to be circular surmounted by a crown - that doesn't narrow the options enough.

All the best
Philip

Can you take a close up of the cap badge? It looks similar to one of the Light Infantry units but it's too big and his stripes would be black or dark green.

Cheers
Andy

A 1944 ish pic...The cap badge is plastic economy, and ergo quite difficult to make out on a low res pic.
One more charge and then be dumb,
When the forts of Folly fall,
May the victors when they come
Find my body near the wall.

I would agree that it is probably a plastic economy badge and in brown.  This colour and the shape, possibly with crown, would suggest Royal Engineers to me.

There are a number of other regts with dark brown plastic badges but it does not look like Military Police, Pioneer corps or RA.

Other options are Royal Signals, York and Lancaster and Int Corps but statistically as the RE was so much larger he is more likely to be RE and the RE cap badge is the closest in shape.

I have seen all in all x3 colours....Apart from the usual "Not manufactured" ones such as cavalry and the "fragile" ones....

All in all 3 colours? Really do you have some photos as that is information that is not recorded in the ACD records for production of the badges.  You do get a handfull that come in 2 colours but infrequently and none in all 3 to my knowledge.  Royal Marines also come in blue whilst the RAF are black.

I'd go with RE. The only way you'll know for sure is to get a copy of his service records from the MoD.

Cheers
