Dublin Tenement Burials - Charlemont Street
« on: Friday 31 October 14 17:14 GMT (UK) »
Hello,

Would anyone have any suggestions where people from Charlemont street in Dublin would have buried during the period 1915 - 1940's. I am trying to find the burial place of my Great Grandparents and can find no record. I have searched Glasnevin, Deansgrange and Mount Jerome - is there any where else they could be buried in Dublin?  They were both Catholic, Christopher Doyle died sometime between 1915 to 1930, and Maria Doyle died sometime between 1932 and early 1940's. The address would always have been Charlemont street.

Were the Doyles born in Dublin.?
If not Its possible they may have been buried in family plots outside the City or in the 'suburbs' St Fintans in Sutton as an example.

Alan,

How have you checked Deansgrange & Mount Jerome ?

If you did it online through IGP then NOT all graves are listed yet.

Glasnevin is the only one with full online records !

I've also noticed that you are using quite a wide date range for the death of Christopher in particular.

If we start with him ~ have you not gotten a civil death record for him yet ?

What are you basing these years on ?

How positive are you on the Charlemont Street address ?

Tara

Hello Tara,

I have searched Glasnevin, Deansgrange and Mount Jerome, not just online but by contacting each office and having them check their records - they found no burial record. I am very positive on the Charlemont address as they are listed at Charlemont in 1911 census and I have a letter written by Maria from that Charlemont address in 1932. Christopher is on the Dublin electoral records in 1915 but he is dead at the time of Maria's letter in January 1932, so he died between 1915 and 1931. Maria was 79 when she wrote the letter in 1932 so I assume she would have died between 1932 and mid forties. They were not wealthy enough to be buried outside of Dublin City, so my question is as they are not in Glasnevin, Deansgrange or Mount Jerome where else is there to be buried in Dublin city for a catholic from the tenements?

I should add I did contact the General registry office for Christopher's death record and they could not find one that matches - it looks like it was not registered, they could not find one for Maria either - however she may have been registered under Mary Doyle and there were many many of those who died in Dublin area between 1932 and 1945 and they cannot search without at least a defined year of death
