In addition to the comment by Mole the South Wales Borderers existed as a regiment 1 July 1881-1969.

Battle of Rorkes Drift 22/23 January 1879. My late wife and I were there on the 100th Anniversary.

Thanks for putting this vital point so succinctly. The 24th Foot were not a regiment of Welshmen. Contrary to the impression given in that delightful but largely mythical film Zulu.
