Kinross Vehicle Licence
« on: Saturday 19 October 13 16:04 BST (UK) »
According to the list of vehicle licences for the period 2 Nov 1911 to 2 Nov 1912 SV158 was issued to Herbert J McPate of Cleish Castle. As this person is likely to be one of my family I am keen to obtain  any information there is about him. I have drawn a blank so far with other sources.
Thanks in anticipation.

Hi Geoff

Not seeing anyone specifically as yet to fit the age of what you are looking for. The name of Herbert is not that common in Scotland. There is this list showing on Mundia www.uk.mundia.com/gb/Search/Results?surname=MCPATE&birthPlace=United%20Kingdom which includes a Herbert James McPate born 1914 in Carluke Lanarkshire (family here www.uk.mundia.com/gb/Person/22373455/18762172543). Too late for the person you are looking for, but likely family at least.

The only person I can see/identify close to that name in both Scotland and England is the one b. 1914 so far....

I thought that might have been how you connected with the name in 1911-12  :-\ Hard to find anything further in Scotland on this other Herbert so far, as you have found...

Have you found him in the 1911 census?

Hi GR 2,
No luck in the 1911 census for Scotland or England.

While he may have been out of the country or just missed out in the 1911 census, I wonder if Herbert was his Sunday name and he may be hiding as "Bert" or even using his middle name (not unusual).

Perth & Kinross Council Archive have kindly supplied me with a photocopy of the original Register of Licences with the entry for Herbert J " McPate ". While the name could be McPate it could also read McPule, McPue, McTule etc, etc.. He may have been a chauffeur at Cleish Castle. He hunt continues!!

I am now convinced the name is not McPate. My best guess is McQue.
Many thanks to all respondents.  Case closed.
