Ship deserters

I have found that an A Lindale was an AB on board the Ship Waikare which arrived in Wellington on 13 September 1905.

This date roughly ties in with the information provided on my grandfather Albert Clarence LINDALE's Intention to Marry which id dated 16th January 1908 and in which he says he has been in Wellington for 4 years. And as this ship sailed from Newcastle, Australia, which is where his father was apparently living at the time of Albert's marriage, this adds to my suspicion that he may have "Jumped Ship"

Are there registers of ships deserters available to search or peruse?

I don't have an answer to your question (but I suspect the answer is probably 'no' ;)), but he might appear in the 1905 Police Gazette.

I'll have a look for him for you.

It seems that the NSW State Records Office reel with crew and passengers details has NOT YET been transcribed for that voyage
