Birth 1817/1818 Manchester FILDES
« on: Tuesday 01 February 05 16:32 GMT (UK) »
I am looking for the birth of Thomas Paine Fildes who, according to census/marriage certificate ages was born in 1817 or 1818 in Manchester.
He was married at Manchester Cathedral to Sarah Gee in 1838.
I know his father was William Fildes (Reedmaker) from his marriage certficate.
Could anyone tell me how I can trace this birth - I cannot get into Manchester library to search parish registers.
This is all the info I have on him, except his children.
He seemed to stay around Manchester but I realise that is a big place with many churches - can anyone help?

Hello Claudio 99,

I think I have some good news for you.  I believe we are some of the rellies that you are seeing.
We come under the same tree. In fact we were doing some family research in the UK just about three weeks ago. We start way back at Roger Fyldes from Mode Theel.  My husband is the actual Fildes I am a ring in. We were looking James Fildes who lived at 73 market street earls town where had a shop down the road at number 66. He married a Mary Gamers.  Early forebears go back to a Prescott who married Jas Fildes and had 7 children. Thomas, James, Albert, jack, Annie, made, and William.
Boyd married Jonathan (pending) they had 9 children, Eliza Ann, Louisa Ann, Hannah, jack, Alice, Edith, William, Minnie and Norman.
From James we come to Thomas Fildes who married Louisa Pennington at nut grove chapel 21 March 1892 they had 7 children.  Lily, Herbert Arthur, Edith, Alfred Baden, Harold Thomas, Robert Eric, myrtle.   Thomas and son Herbert left Liverpool in 1911 and arrived in Fremantle wa. Thomas moved to sa. Herbert moved to kattaning and this is my husbands family. In 1913 the rest of Thomas's family joined him South Aust. Alfred stayed in wa. I can keep going if you would like to make contact. I am interested to find out more and to share with the family as there are fair number of us. My husband comes from one of five siblings. Alf married and had 4 four children. Trevor, Lorraine, Lynette and Brian.
Hope to hear from you. I can be found on facebook. Cheers

Welcome to Rootschat Jenni  :D

I just looked at Claudia's profile and she hasn't been on Rootschat for about 6 months, so she may not see this message straight away.

There are many Google references to Thomas Paine Fildes, whose mother was supposedly the reformer Mary Fildes who spoke at Peterloo in 1819. Various Ancestry trees have his parents as Willliam Fildes and Mary Pritchard.

Hope that helps

 :) Barbara
