Hi Warren,

It looks from FreeBMD as though she and Thomas married in March quarter 1854 in Basford district, which included Ilkeston.

From her age in 1881 it also looks as though she was born c1835, which makes me wonder whether this entry in the IGI might be right:

Birth: 31 MAY 1834
Baptism: 30 JUN 1837      Ilkeston, Derby, England

Father:     James Burrows
Mother:     Phebe

It doesn't say it's an extracted record but nor does it say that it's Patron Submitted...

I notice that Hannah's father James is living with them in 1881 aged 76 and also born Ilkeston, which adds to the liklihood the record above is right.

There's a marriage of James Burrows to Foebe Eastwell in Horsley on 21st August 1829 on the IGI as an extracted record which may be relevant. Horsley isn't far from Ilkeston.

Hope that helps a bit,

Thank you both so much for your research!

It is very difficult to access much of this information from Canada.  I have been looking for this information for many months, since being bit by the genealogy bug.

Thanks again, Warren.

Hi,
Confirmation of the Bpt for the children of James Burrows & Phoebe are on the IGI as follows:-

Batch Number

C055141   Bishops Transcripts for Ilkeston Parish Church

21st November 1830 James Burrow, son of James & Phoebe Burrow

C019458    Ilkeston Parish Church

                   Hannah  Born 31.5.1834    Bpt. 30.6.1837

                    Mary Ann         Bpt. 30.6.1837.

It would appear from ages given on the Census, that the Priest entered the birth date for Mary Ann against
the name of Hannah.

All the above records are extracted from original Registers.

Regards
Spendlove

Thank you very much for this information.  I am quite excited that you have confirmed the names and dates as indicated.

I am actually hoping to take a trip to Ilkeston in the next year or so as my curiosity about my family history is very strong.  My paternal grandmother is a Phipps, also from the Ilkeston area.

All of my family members from my mother's side came to Canada with the Hudson's Bay Company.  Those names include Spencer, Sinclair, and Small.

Thank you once again.  I am so happy to have stumbled onto Roots Chat.

Warm Regards,

Warren Smith
