Long Eaton cemetry grave photo request
« on: Friday 03 October 14 09:45 BST (UK) »
Hello all,
I am wondering if anyone that lives near to longeaton or visits there regularly would be able to take a photograph of a gravestone for me please?
The details of the grave are as follows:

Long Eaton Cemetery – Grave Number A-493 Stillborn child Buried 2 October 1888 Jean Evans Aged 10 years Buried 7 th November 1936 Eric Hodge Aged 68 years Buried 16 th April 1991.

I think it is a paupers grave because those people aren't related, but there should be a headstone but up in 1991 for Eric.

Thanks a lot,
Pendlelad

Hello Pendlelad..have today spent the best part of two hours on a futile search for grave. Trouble is its a vast cemetery, with no Office, just a Chapel of rest, that was Locked. there is no indcation of which Rows and grave numbers are which. Since cemetery closed in 1997, I suppose there is no need for anyone to be there to help.
I have no idea whether I'm looking for an 1888 grave or 1936 grave that has been re-opened, or a 1991 headstone on old ground.
You say you think it was a pauper's grave..they are usually separate from the main body of the cemetery.
..and from what you say, there may not be a headstone anyway..
Sorry to let you down, but I did my best.
Derek.

Thankyou so much for your effort Derek. We do really appreciate it. If there is any graves i can do in my area for you i will.
Its a shame that the cemetery is so big. There is definately a headstone for Eric (1991) but the other two people in the grave were buried way furthrr back than him and didnt have a gravestone until 1991 but with Erics name. My friend seemed to remember it was opposite the chapel somewhere.

Thanks again,
Jack

JGDavies, thanks for your reply.
Im thrilled that you are carrying on the search, i didnt realise that the cemetery was so big and the grave is so hard to find. I hope you will be lucky in finding Erics grave this time..
Thanks,
Pendlelad
