New Bailey Prisoner - 1850/1860- would his crime appear in Newspapers?
« on: Friday 31 October 14 16:17 GMT (UK) »
Hi All

I am seeking information on a John Thompson who was living in St Peter Derby on the 1851 census

On the 1861 Census it appears he is in the New Bailey Prison Salford, Lancashire.  As no one else fitting his name, age and place of birth "leek Staffordshire" appears anywhere else on the 1861 census. (some transcriptions of the 1861 census say he was 53 but when you look at the actual census entry it really looks like the John Thompson is 33)

If John Thompson was a silk weaver living in Derby presumably whatever he did to land in prison must be in the papers of that day?

I am trying to fill in huge gaps in the 'story' in order to continue on my tree and need to find out as much as possible on this John Thompson and his family in Derby.

Thanks for the help

Just wondered if this site might give you some other information and him, or clues as to where else to look:
