Landrake marriage 1738
« on: Friday 03 January 14 13:38 GMT (UK) »
I have the following info from the Cornish OPC website, a transcript from Phillimores

6th Jan 1738 Landrake, Hugh ROGERS m. Frances JEPMAN

however I think that JEPMAN should possibly be CHAPMAN as they later have a daughter Mary Chapman Rogers.

I should be grateful if someone who has access to the originals could check if this is a mistranscription.

Thank you in advance
Jacqui

Hi

Saltash Heritage has the microfiche for St Germans District which includes Landrake.  If you email them direct I will look it up for you when we are next open - Wednesday. Make sure you put  St Erney (as on FindMyPast) as that is a different fiche to Landrake.  The fiche for that era are very difficult to read but I'll do my best!

Hi Mo

Thanks you for your knd offer, I've emailed Saltash Heritage as you suggested with the details that I have.

I am in contact with Terry already with another query, but hadn't thought to approach your group with this too.

Thanks again, look forward to hearing from you

Maybe the online parish clerks http://www.cornwall-opc.org/Par_new/parishes.php
can help you.
Added:
I have found the marriage here
https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.3.1/TH-266-12420-15277-7?cc=1769414&wc=MMVH-VV9:n1422968492
and this link has some information about the transcribing as well.

I hope the links work.

Hi Maryanne

Thanks for that and yes, both links work.
I had completley forgotten that I have Phillimore's on disc  :-[ :-[
The entry is shown the same on there, but I would still be interested to know if the original written entry could possibly be Chapman.

Thanks for your help

It's Jepman on http://freereg.rootsweb.com/cgi/SearchResults.pl?RecordType=Marriages&RecordID=3945153 and it includes the name of the church where they were married.
Here the surname is Jepman and Japmen https://familysearch.org/search/record/results#count=20&query=%2Bgivenname%3Ahugh~%20%2Bsurname%3Arogers~%20%2Brecord_country%3AEngland%20%2Brecord_subcountry%3A%22England%2CCornwall%22%20%2Bspouse_givenname%3Afra~
Maybe the person who married them misunderstood what the surname was.
Here is a link about Landrake with St. Erney - a rural parish in south east Cornwall
http://www.landrakeparishcouncil.gov.uk/textonly/history_st_erney.htm
No marriages though.

Thanks again Maryanne, it's beginning to look as if it is recorded as Jepman. However as you say it could have been a misunderstanding in the first place.

Regards
Jacqui
