Ryan family from Sligo
« on: Sunday 12 October 14 07:25 BST (UK) »

Hello
I am trying to trace my Irish ancestors from Sligo.
Patrick Ryan was a soldier, father of Bridget, born about 1860 in Sligo.
She is my Great, Great Grandmother who married Charles Ingram in Portland Dorset in1881.
He too was a soldier.
Their eldest son, Peter, was born in Great Warley, Essex. Again, a soldier.
My Great  Grandfather.
I can't seem to find Bridget's birth or info about Patrickor the Ryans in Sligo in the 1800s.
Any info would be greatfully received..

Hiya Kathy and welcome to Rootschat ..
could this be her ?...a record in Latin
it is jan 1858 so may be a little early for your Bridgit - but is the only record showing around 1860 with a father named Patrick on www.familysearch.org
https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/FGR6-GHC
if you think it is her - she had a brother
https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/FGR6-HV5
and the parents marriage - gives the village of Taunagh,Sligo as marriage place - I wonder if Bridgit and Michael were born in Taunagh as well ?
https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/FGR6-HV5
ADDED....just read Aghadowey post and totally agree - this is only a possible
oakes,liverpool..neston..backford..poulton cum spittal(bebington)middlewich,cheshire......   sacht,helgoland  .......merrick,herefordshire adams,shropshire...tipping..ellis..  jones,garston,liverpool..hartley.dunham massey..barker. salford

Civil registration of births in Ireland began in 1864 so you need to search for a baptismal record. Not all from this period survive and of those that do not all are online so do not assume that the above record is the correct Bridget Ryan.
Away sorting out DNA matches... I may be gone for some time many years!
