1841 census Look up please - COOPER
« on: Saturday 12 April 14 17:59 BST (UK) »
Hi

Am searching for 1841 census records

Thomas Cooper b 1814/1816
Ann Cooper b  1819/20
John Cooper b 1840

I can find them all together in 1851 census but not in 1841 and John would only be 1

All are born in Broughton Hampshire according to 1851 census.

Any help kindly received or any suggestions on what to do next

Ri

All seem to be Cooper except the last one who a Blake?
All born in County.

Living at Little London. Perhaps the couple were not married in 1841 and Johns age in 1851 is incorrect. Have you got his birth/ baptism. ?

Hi

Archive ref is not my Thomas Ann is one and john is 19 in this entry my Ann cooper needs to be 22 approx and John 1 Def. the right area though.

I've not used baptism searches yet have purely been census led if the 1841 keeps causing problems would the advice be to go baptism led and is all of that info on line?

Thanks again, my head hurts I've had to walk away from this search so many times now out of frustration  >:( ::)

John seems to be their first child.

I think that Ann was using her middle name and might have been Sarah Ann Blake.  There is a marriage registered in the Stockbridge RD for Thomas Cooper in the June qtr of 1839 with a possible bride of Sarah Ann Blake. Stockbridge includes the parish of Broughton.

There is a baptism of a Sarah Anne Blake in Broughton 9 April 1820, parents William and Kezia.

John's birth certificate would confirm his mother's maiden name.

Not managed to identify a baptism for Thomas Cooper yet.

On the original there is a // stroke at the side of Thomas`s name, does that indicate it is a separate household even though they are all Cooper.

There are a John and an Ann baptised to a Thomas and Ann Cooper.
Also quite a few Blake`s.

I agree, but as we both know it is so open to interpretation due to its lack of clarity!
