Loney - dead end!
« on: Saturday 18 June 11 11:07 BST (UK) »
My great-grandfather was Hugh Loney.  He was married to Mary (Petrie) in 1925 and I have their marriage cert.

However, I can find no record of Hugh's parents James Loney and Ellen (ms. O'Donnell).  I have tried SP and irish websites for their marriage and have found nothing.

James Loney was a coal miner - deceased at the time of Hugh's wedding in 1925.  Hugh was 31 and lived at 16 Elmvale Row.

Mary Petrie was also 31 and lived at 26 George St.  Her parents were David Petrie (deceased) and Mary (Connell).

If anyone can help with the Loney search that would be great.

Hi Gazza,

Just to get you some information, have you tried viewing this death certificate? It may be of Hugh's mother and will supply details of her parents and husband, if known.

Helen Loney, or O'Donnell, died 1950 in Springburn, Glasgow aged 78 (b.c. 1872)

hume :)

Hume - that might be here as Ellen could easily become Helen - and the date of birth ties in by 1 year with Crisane's info.

Crisane - there was only 1 Hugh Loney born around the 1890s and he was from Kirkintilloch on SP, so I am becoming pretty certain that your info is the info I am seeking.  Very surprised to see that James Loney was born in England though.  Perhaps james was married to Ellen in England which is why I can't find any info on SP.

Thank Crisane - you have opened up a whole lot of info for me to record, and to hopefully trace Denis Loney back even further through Ireland. :)

Any thoughts on the marriage of John and Ellen though - as this isn't showing up anywhere?
