Ok that marriage gives a bit more info.

4 Jun 1865
Rowley Regis Stafford

Elizabeth Demon age 22 father Samuel
Richard David Northat age 29 father William Northat

When did mother Sarah remarry 1845?

There is a death for William Northall West Brom Mar 1844 so he could have been the father/husband.

Burroughs - Arlingham Glos
Pick - Frocester Glos

Wow!!! Thanks to all of you for the info; brilliant; it gives me loads to go on now. I had always thought that my Grandmothers family were from Yorkshire but it now looks as if they originated from the Black Country. Thanks again for your help.

As a result of the information given I have established that Harriet Northall b1873 married Fred Walker in 1893 in Lancashire. By 1901 they had had three children. Still trying to establish the parents of William Northall 7 mths old on the 1891 Census. Maybe his mother is Harriet!!!!

Was there a daughter Emily?

Looking for little William in 1901 there is this family.

Emily Eckersley 34 born Oldbury
William Northall 10 son born Manchester
Hilda Eckersley 2 daughter born Manchester
John Eckersley 1 daughter born Manchester
Elizabeth Northall 58 mother born Oldbury

Yes Emily was a daughter and I've established that William was her son. However I'm still trying to find the whereabouts of Richard Northall, b abt 1837, in 1841. I've tried every possible surname containing North* but with nom luck.I know that his mothers name was Sarah, fathers name unknown. In 1851 he's living with his mother & step-father so I'm looking at Sarah's re-marriage in 1845 to see if that will give me any clues.

Yes I've looked and looked in 1841 as well but no luck.

I thought his father was possibly William?  There was a death in 1844 same district Sarah remarried the following year.

Another possibility is there's a death for a Richard Northall * in Dudley Jun 1840.
That's where young Richard was born and named for his father - could be.

* and another Richard Northall buried 29 March 1837 Dudley.

Finding a first marriage for Sarah would be helpful  :D

Just had a thought do we actually know Sarah was married to Richard's father or are we assuming she was married and not a single mother?

Without confirmation of a first marriage (or confirmation she was a widow on the second) then  :-\
