Is anybody in a position to look for a newspaper article for me, please.

Jnae Price, aged 17 was found drowned in the Dearne and Dove Canal at West Melton on 18th May 1868.  The inquest was held the following day - 19th May.  She was buried in the graveyard of Christ Church, Brampton Bierlow.

I don't think there's much chance of me finding a coroner's report, but I'm pretty sure it would have been in the local paper.

I'd be very grateful for any further information!

West Melton - Suicide - Jane Price, about 19 years of age, daughter of Thomas Price, pot hawker of West Melton, went, yesterday morning and drowned herself, after making a fire and setting on the kettle.  The reason assigned for the rash act is that her father had beaten her the previous night for some fault or other.

Hi

Here is on report

The Leeds Mercury, Tuesday, May 19, 1868

A REMARKABLE DREAM ~ On Monday morning Jane Price aged about 19, a daughter of Thomas Price of West Melton, after making a fire and and setting on a kettle left the house and did not return. Some apprehension was made that she had harmed herself as she and her father had had words the night before. Her father and others hurried to the canal at Old Moor Bridge and the body was found with the use of drags, which are kept at the locks at Wombwell junction. The searchers had gone to the very place where the girl had thrown herself in the water. It was stated that the woman next door had dreamt of the girl entering the water and told them exactly where to find her. It was also stated the girl had left 3 stones an paper to mark the place where she went into the water.

Wow!  Thank you both for the speedy response!

Her gravestone reads:
SHE COULD NOT LIVE TO BEAR FALSE BLAME
LET HIM WHO CAUSED IT BEAR THE PAIN
FEELING THAT HIS SLANDEROUS BREATH
CAUSED INNOCENCE AN UNTIMELY DEATH

I was intrigued.  You've helped me solve the mystery.

Thanks again,
