There is also another Thomas McIntosh to consider living in McLeod Alberta on the 1921 census.  He has an immigration year of 1907 and is a driver for the fire brigade.  His wife, Jessie, is 46 and an immigraiton year of 1908.  Children William 16 and Thomas 14 are born in Scotland and daughter Betty, 5 is born in Alberta.

On the 1916 census the family also shows son John 14 born Scotland with the family unit.  Daughter, 7 weeks, is shown as Margaret E.?

Have you checked for a Scottish marriage for your Thomas.  There is a possibility that he married Jessie Martin in Dingwall, Ross and Cromarty in 1901 and emigrated with his brother William in 1907 and his wife and children followed after.

Jessie McIntosh, 33 with John 4, William 3 and Thomas 1 arrived on the Hesperian 01 June 1908 from Glasgow to Montreal with a destination of Macleod Alberta.

If this is your Thomas he is on the Voters List into the late 50s.

1911 census for Thomas and wife Jessie and children.  Tom is at the bottom of one page and the rest of the family on the next.

many thanks cosmic. This sounds interesting and could very well be them. We knew William returned to Scotland but unsure what happened to Thomas...This would suggest he may have died in Canada....I have not been able to find the family on Scottish census???

It might be worth a few dollars to look up the marriage on Scotlands People to figure out if either the Fort MacLeod McIntoshs are yours.  That would leave you with the Medicine Hat Thomas as a possibility.

Hi chan,

There has been a lot of movement between Canada and the United States historically. You may want to check out the cross border crossings for this family as well. I believe our National Archives has the dox as well as Ancestry.ca.

A border crossing document for Thomas and wife Evelyn in 1936 at Eastport Idaho show their residence as Medicine Hat, his birthplace as Rosshire, and his nearest Canadian relative as John McIntosh Granum Alberta.  The couple were going to visit Schuler relatives in Oregon for 6 weeks.
