Pte James Hunter Argyll & Suth Highlanders And Machine Gun Corps
« on: Sunday 30 November 14 15:12 GMT (UK) »
Hi

Pte James Hunter 3817 Argyll & Sutherland Highlanders and also 139683 Machine Gun Corps

Trying to track down details of this WW1 soldier. He was in two different regiments (according to his medal record on Ancestry) but cannot seem to get any further details on him. A Victory Medal given to him for WW1 was found in the 1980s in Tullibody - I don't know any more than that, and it's hoped that his family can be traced and the medal returned to them.

Can anyone help any further with this?

You could put this on a WW1 forum too
http://1914-1918.invisionzone.com/forums/index.php

I'd like to think the medal belonged to a decendant of this man.  James Hunter (1834-1910) and Margaret Petrie (1832-1913). James was a farm servant, shepherd and game-keeper.  He was born in Tullibody, Clackmannanshire. He worked for farms and estates in that county and the adjacent West Fife. His son James Hunter married to Mary Mitchell, (1869-1924) of Queensland, Australia but the dates are out for him (he immigrated in 1909, WW1 started 1914, he died in 1924,  still could he have served for the Scots instead of Australia and lost his medal on a trip to Tullibody?)

The Machine Gun Corps Old Comrades' Association secretary might also be interested/helpful in getting details about the medal
