Edwin Williams-School House Risca
« on: Friday 23 August 13 16:16 BST (UK) »
Can someone please do a look-up on the 1901 census for Edwin Williams born c.1856 in Maesteg, Glam?  I believe he was head teacher at Risca school, Monmouthshire.  I know there were two sons named Edwin Morgan and Oswald Morgan but there could be more.  I would appreciate a copy of the details for the full household.

Thanks

Hello Osprey
Nice to hear from you; thanks for the details.  My interest here is in the son Edwin (11) I'm trying to build a picture of him.  During the war he attained the rank of 2nd Lt and he was CO of 16 Bn The Welsh Regiment.  A friend of mine lost a relative in the great war and Edwin aka Eddie Williams was his commanding officer.  He wrote to the family to inform them of the relatives death not by letter but in the form of a beautiful scroll.  To have done that shows he must have been a caring officer.
Regards Roy

PS: I should have added I believe Edwin (Eddie) Williams on leaving the army followed in his father's footsteps and became a school teacher.  I wonder if there are any 'Risca rootchatters' who can confirm that?

well, this looks to be him possibly at college from the free index of 1911 on FamilySearch

https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/XWWR-MWZ

Could be at Borough Road College, given that he's in Isleworth

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Borough_Road

http://www.bfss.org.uk/archive/archive-contents/sport-at-borough-road-1920th-centuries/

There's a mention of Oswald being at Llandovery College in 1910 and winning a scholarship to St John's College, Oxford. He was killed in 1916.
