Alice Sarah Hitchborn research required pls...
« on: Saturday 18 January 14 14:34 GMT (UK) »
Hi there,

I'm trying to find out as much as i can about Alice Sarah Hitchborn who i believe married Frank W Jordan on April 1 1894 in Stanground, Peterborough. I'm trying to find as much information as i can on this lady and would be grateful for any information from local records and census to identify her family and origins. She appears on the 1891 census as a cook (bad copy i have) living at Narrow Bridge Street in Peterborough with Jessie Smith 18yrs (head and manageress refreshment buffet!) and Annie Allen 19yrs a domestic servant.. I cant work out what this arrangement may be (shop perhaps)

Regards
john

When and where was she born (according to the census entry you have found)?
Have you found her on 1901/1911 after her marriage - when and where did she say she was born then?
Who does she give as her father on her marriage cert?
Edmonds/Edmunds - mainly Sussex
DeBoo - London
Green - Suffolk
Parker - Sussex
Kemp - Essex
Farrington - Essex
Boniface - West Sussex

My Apologies Lizd

Her birthplace is given as Stanground, Northants (which i believe is in the Peterborough area) and her age recorded as 21 years.

I have no marriage certificate as the marriage date came from a separate post on the Jordan family.

Not spotting her after her marriage on 1901.

The 1891 certainly looks as if she is the cook at the restaurant buffet (enumerator has written "coffee" next to it, so probably more of a snack/coffee shop) and presumably lives in.  Born Stanground.

Here is her birth

Ap/May/Jun 1870
Peterborough
ref 3b 226
Alice Sarah Hitchborn

Getting her birth cert would be rhe sure way to find her parents - but I'll have a look at earlier censuses first.
Edmonds/Edmunds - mainly Sussex
DeBoo - London
Green - Suffolk
Parker - Sussex
Kemp - Essex
Farrington - Essex
Boniface - West Sussex

MArriage
Jul/Aug/sep 1860
Peterborough
ref 3b 365
William Hitchborn / one of possible brides Levinia Foulks

Seems likely Alice's mum was actually a Lavinia, but census enumerators struggled with the name!

Her second marriage:
Jul/Aug/Sep 1877
Peterborough
ref 3b 384
LAvinia Hitchborn / Ambrose Rippin on same page

Are you wanting to go further back with either William Hitchborn or Lavinia Foulks?
Edmonds/Edmunds - mainly Sussex
