Kennedy's in Galway
« on: Tuesday 16 December 14 16:13 GMT (UK) »
Hi,

I have been researching my family tree for a few weeks now and I'm beginning to think I'm reaching back as far as I can go. I have now traced my Kennedy family to Glasgow then to Cork. Attached is some of the info and I have posted here just in case someone knows of some record set or index that I am not aware of in Galway to help trace the family. What I have is:

•   Patrick Kennedy married Mary Taig in Glasgow in 1858 (cert below)
•   Patrick Kennedy puts his parents as Brian Kennedy (farmer) and Bridget Kean it seems
•   Patrick Kennedy applied in 1862 for poor relief in Glasgow and put his home address as Galway, Ireland
•   Patrick Kennedy in subsequent Scottish census’ puts his birth as 1839
•   Patrick Kennedy remarries in Cork and strangely puts a different father of Bernard but this kind of matches the fact himself and Mary Kennedy (Taig) had a son Bernard so not sure about the Brian on his first marriage cert.

So that’s where I am stuck. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks
David

Thanks for the reply Tara. When you say the names are all the same are you saying in those days they were interchangeable? They sound so different!

Just wondering also had you any luck with the parish records recently released as i think if i went searching for Bryan there i would struggle as i found them hard to decipher?

Thanks again

Yes, they were interchangeable, very commonly !

UGH some of the parish records are great, some are totally illegible.

It's purely random.

rootsireland has transcriptions but they are a sub site and there is no guarantee that you would find the family on it.
