SHARP (Port Glasgow)
« on: Saturday 19 June 10 21:06 BST (UK) »
Hello,
I am trying to find the parents of ROBERT SHARP (abt 1830) he married MARY SLOAN (abt 1828) in Port Glasgow on July 1, 1850.
I was hoping that the parents would be listed on the marriage certificate but I havn't been able to find one. Any ideas?

Hi Jacquie,
I've just come across your request for information about various family names that you are/were interested in. One of the names you mentioned was a Leah McDonald. You say that Leah McDonald was the daughter of Henry McDonald and Elizabeth Garvie. Can I correct you on that? Leah McDonald as you say, was the daughter of Henry McDonald but her mother's name wasn't Garvie it was Elizabeth Jane McRevie ( I've come across several spellings of this surname). The McDonalds lived at Princes Court, Port Glasgow. Leah had eight brothers and sisters. Her father, Henry, was killed in a shipping accident in 1876.

Hope this helps you.

Regards,
John.

Hi Jacquie,
If Robert Sharp died in Scotland after 1855 you might find his parents names recorded on the registration of his death.
There is another boy called Robert Sharp in Port Glasgow. He is with his family on the 1841 Census at Shore Street, Port Glasgow.

Robert Sharp      40   Ship Carpenter Journeyman        born outside Census County
Janet Sharp        40                                                           ditto
Isabella Sharp     15                                                   born Renfrewshire (as are all the children)
Robert Sharp      10
Alexander Sharp   8
William Sharp       6
Hellen Sharp        4
Elizabeth Sharp    1

Looby :)

Hello from NZ.

While Robert was not a SHARP/E name handed down through our lot, there were SHARP's, so I've done research into the environs of GLASGOW of that period. I will PM you with some of my data.
