Ann & Janet Wilson, sisters of Greenock
« on: Wednesday 27 February 13 16:42 GMT (UK) »
Ann Wilson b 14 Jul 1861 & her sister Janet b 22 Mary 1867 both appear on the 1881 census living with their father, their mother died in 1877.  I can find no trace of either on the 1891 census, I've also check Yorkshire as an aunt moved there with her husband in the 1840s, also checked SP for marriages & deaths, without success.  Their father, John died in January 1888 at the address of another daughter, although the Post Office Directory of 1887-88 shows him as a farmer at Cornhaddock on the farm he was born.
Ann & Janet seem to disappear around the time of the death of their father & I've checked outgoing ships from Greenock as well.
Anyone any ideas I can follow up?

The logical explanation is marriage as by 1891 Ann was nearly 30 and Janet 24

A basic search on SP for Renfrew marriages 1881-1891 shows 18 matches for an Ann Wilson and 12 for a Janet

Have you already viewed and discounted all of them

Taken some doing but I've found a newspaper report of Janet marrying Robert Graham of Airth Mill on 8 Jan 1894.
Just to find Ann now.

At long last I have found Ann, she died a spinster in 1921, she was being called Annie, rather than Ann.  On the 1891, 1901 & 1911 census she is a patient at the Smithson Asylum, she died at 14 Inverkip Road, which was the attached hospital.  Her bother was also a patient as this hospital & committed suicide on the railway in 1892.  At the time of her death Ann's usual address is given as that of her widowed sister in law.
